Cameras can be divided into two categories. The first category is cameras designed for serious shooting, when it is necessary to examine and compare 100% of images. And the second are cameras for entertainment. Sony T30 is of the second type. It is possible to add that this camera is also a fashionable and prestigious device.
The cameras of this type are traditionally meant for women. Although I do not see why a man could not use this stylish camera too. In fact the main thing is that this camera is a pleasure when shooting, and a pleasure for your friends when they view your creations.
Nine models of T-series have been released or announced to date.

Sony T30 is the second ultra compact model with the stabilizer of the image. For the first time the maximal sensitivity in T-series is ISO 1000. The system of suppression of the noise, integrated into the most recent Sony cameras is called Clear RAW ™. The new internal processor allows making up to 420 shots without charging. This is the record for cameras of this type and size. The remaining operating time can be seen on the display.
Apparently, Sony T30 is at the top not only of the series, but also among the general latest trends in the world of digital cameras.
I was interested, mainly, in the results of noise blanking system and efficiency of the optical stabilizer. Some successes of big cameras have allowed consumers to hope that a quite good picture can be obtained "from a pocket" having gotten a camera smaller than a cigarette-case.
The menu is simple as in the older models. The priority of shooting is realized in this model, an unusual characteristic in compact cameras. It is possible at any moment to press the shuttle release button and make a shot staying in the menu of film-making parameters.
The whole back surface is made of a transparent plastic that creates the effect of a smooth surface. The access to the batteries and memory card is on the side. During the shooting from a support it is convenient. Fast and intuitive switch on of the camera by moving a forward protective cover is a great Sony feature.
The camera case is metal. The display is huge, though it would not be desirable to operate with such a number of exaggerations. The hybrid technology gives an excellent visibility in sunlight.
A socket for dock-station is at the bottom of the camera. However it is not delivered in the complete set.
The test of image stabilizer was carried out with a telefocal length of 114 mm. Some pictures were taken without using the stabilizer and some pictures were taken using the stabilizer. The best of them were selected for comparison. It is established by practical consideration, that the stabilizer can be used when the exposure time is up to 1/13 seconds--eight times longer than the time recommended. The stabilizer does not give an absolute guarantee of a precise picture. It often happened that one of three pictures was a little blurred.
The quality of images hardly varies from ISO 80 up to 400. A noticeable degradation can be seen when ISO 800 and ISO 1000. A loss of the details and blurred transitions between hues can be seen. The applications of pictures with high sensitivity are posting in the Internet-galleries and sending via email.
JPEG compression is strong enough in this camera. If you apply the sharpness filter of sharpness, it’s not possible for unpalatable artifacts to occur. To speak of T30 there is no gauge of position. The picture made in vertical position can be turned only manually.
Sharpness of optics is sufficient for the given class. The images of an album-size sheet can be printed with a good quality. The best sharpness is achieved when using a wide-angle mode of objective. The distance of least sharp is an average (about 60 mm). Falling of sharpness towards the edges is insignificant.
The impression of the lens is different in dependence on a shooting stage. The abundance of fine details leads to a sort of "soap".
The prevailing texture creates bright and saturated images. A traditional chromatic aberration is unexpectedly small. The combination of not so strong optics and capacious matrix promotes another effect - a dark blue edging and a luminescence of borders.
A good zoom in when a macro mode is switched on is reached without needing to approach the camera closely to a subject.
When shooting outdoors problems with color rendition did not arise. The image adjustments provide an opportunity to affect the sharpness, contrast, and saturation. Some styles of the image and a set of subject modes are accessible.
The camera is capable of recording movies with excellent quality. The Sony “genes” affect. For 12 minutes of a movie with the maximal quality (640 x 480, 30 Hz) a gigabyte memory card will be enough. The decrease of frequency more than three times increases the duration of movie. But the decrease of frequency will cause a twitching of the image. The optical zoom is accessible during shooting a movie.
The camera is a little weak because of a not very high sharpness of picture. High sensitivity ISO 800, 1000 is applicable only for electronic use of photos.
Colors are bright and saturated at the same time. The management is pleasant (may be because of a soft shuttle release), and the camera works fast. The stabilizer Steady Shot is rather effective. The process of shooting brings pleasure. Splendid design, low weight, wonderful compactness and absence of protruding parts – all these qualities make very strong advantages for this camera. Anyone who has had a number of problems with reflex cameras and clumsy digicams will appreciate the advantages of Sony.
