Photoshop tips

We can just explain a fundamentals of work to describe a number of special effects, to show capabilities of work with layers and channels, but everybody knows, that skills and the intuition comes only with experience. The work in powerful graphic programmers has such specificity, that even creators are not capable to take into account even a 100-th part of products capabilities. That is, nobody and nothing limits you from looking ups of new routes of new effects — experiment and the experience are two components of a successful creativity.
Starting to study any problem, we all address to the theory at first, but we will not be able to create anything without practice

The graphic editors, including PhotoShop, not exception. It is possible to tell a lot about different color models, to recommend that or that set-up, but until you will not do all these operations by yourself, they will remain not clear. Therefore this and other articles dedicated PhotoShop, we would recommend to read in front of the computer, to be convinced or to be discouraged with what we shall tell. And we shall talk today about masks.

The mask — is area of Marquee, introduced in a half-tone view. The black pixels in a mask correspond to the non - Marquee areas, white — to Marquee one and grey — partially Marquee areas. PhotoShop gives us capabilities for creation of two kinds of masks. First — it is a quick mask. It exists for a single application and is not saved derivation a temporary channel for the term of the operating. Second — it is a standard mask mode, which sometimes called as an alpha-channel. A rather plenty of such channels can be stored simultaneously.

The advantage of a mask that it is an independent half-tone picture that can be edited, not influencing thus the main picture. At depositing into it changes it is possible to use any tools of drawing and editing, any filters, any parameters at light and color correction.

As you already know, PhotoShop — it is the graphic editor intended for creation and editing of the raster pictures. Any object in an image graphics is shown by the way point sets. To make any work with this object (to organize it, to scale, to duplicate, to apply the filter etc.), it is necessary to designate its borders, to create an Marquee area, in which we as though isolate points, necessary for us, (object) ,the rest of pixels will be accepted by the program as a background, restricted from editing.

But what to do, if it is necessary to edit a group of objects in turn? The answer arises itself: to allocate them under the order and to make necessary manipulations. But the problem arises in that moment, when the Marquee earlier area can be necessary again, and Marquee frequently can have the rather composite forms. Let's suppose that you have spent a great deal of time with Marquee of a hair, have applied a dump of filters, of adjustments and, at last, transfer to a following task. But suddenly you again need Marquee area, and what to do, to do this again one more time? For such cases masks were invented, a plenty of which can be stored simultaneously and which at the activating transform into an area of Marquee. They can be piled, you may find their interceptions and make a number of other manipulations. In genera, the masks are a rather interesting thing and, in spite of the fact that they may seem complicated they are easy to work with.

Till now we have met planimetric Marquee only, but occasionally it is necessary to us to create smoothly varying transition from one object to other or planimetric Marquee, but of rather composite shape. With all it a quick mask mode will help to manage. It is the most simple and easy way to define necessary group of points. Before enter this mode, as a rule, there is an approximate area of Marquee, through a standard tool kit intended for these purposes in "PhotoShop" (different kinds of lasso, magic rod, simple areas of Marquee). Then, having passed to a quick masking mode, you have a capability to be concentrated on refinement of Marquee. It would be desirable to add, that the original definition of area of Marquee is optional, but it will help to you in work, while you finally will not master new alpha-channels.

You can pass in a quick mask mode, having selected it at a toolbar or by pressing the key "Q". If you have followed to our advice and initially have Marquee any area, you will see the changes at once after transition in a mode of a quick mask. The Marquee area is represented by the way of film of light-red color. The red color of a film is established in the program automatically. However if there is too much of red color in your picture, the creation of a mask will be difficult a little. We advise to open the panel of channels, in the end you will see a temporary channel called " as a quick mask ". Click on it twice by the left-hand key of the mouse or from the additional menu select "quick mask parameters ". Before you the table will open, you can select from which color of masking, and also its transparency.

You have paid attention for certain, that at transition in a quick mask mode the contour of Marquee has vanished. Actually it temporarily has stopped the existence, as now all made operations will concern directly to the mask and will not affect the picture.

At transition in a standard mode or at double click of the "Q" key the contour will appear again.
To remove a part of Marquee area, you should add pixels of white color in order to add red. This operation you can execute using any PhotoShop tool, including such tools, as a brush, aerogram, and eraser. At painting by halftones you add shaded Marquee areas. As it is visible, the mode of a quick mask allows shading certain contours, while other remain sharp. Furthermore you can change contours of Marquee multiply, seeing the initial picture that has an important value.

But, creating masks, it is not necessary to forget about the so remarkable tool, as a gradient. It allows to achieve most smoothly varying transition from Marquee area to a particulate Marquee area and, at last, to the not Marquee one

On the basis of this remarkable property we also offer to create the new picture, which we shall "blend" from two another. So, take any two photos or two figures. We have taken a photo of a large city and inshore landscape with palms.

We think, you were convinced, that the mode of a quick mask allows creating effects which are unapproachable at work with customary Marquees. Also do not forget, that there is not only linear gradient, but also radial, angular, reflected, and also every possible filters and other automated special effects.

If your temporary mask is still necessary for you, it is not necessary to come out of its mode, previously not having saved it, and the program allows you to make it. For this purpose it is enough in a graphic pallet of channels to drag «a quick mask «on a tag symbolizing a new channel.

All above said concerned to a quick mask, but there is also a standard mask. It represents Marquee saved in an independent channel, which can also be edited, as well as "a quick mask". How to create such new (alpha) channel or mask? And it is very simple! You need to convert Marquee area to a channel of a mask. For this purpose you can make following operations: " Marquee if you need to add a channel to any area of Marquee, click on a name of the corresponding channel, having pressed thus of the "Ctrl+Shift" key. If you need interception, the "Ctrl+Shift+Alt" keys should be pressed.

And one more nuance. If you need to edit a contour of Marquee inside a mask, channel click on the push button of a quick masking mode. It can show a little bit strange, but you really can pass in a quick masking mode, even if you work in a channel of a mask. But only color of a mask and color of a quick mask should differ by all means.

Masks, as any other tool in PhotoShop, demonstrate a super-high professional level and imagination of the creators of this program. Really, with the help of masks the editing of the multilayer and composite pictures transforms to an easy and entertaining process. The results are simply fantastic on the quality and beauty (though, certainly, all depends on you). It is necessary to say, that overwhelming majority of composite advertising collages, are built with direct participation of masking. And it is not surprising, you saw, what interesting effect you could achieve, using only two photos and one gradient transition effect. But you see these capabilities are not limited, as you have still set of filters, special effects, actions.

The framework is indispensable part of any picturesque product. It underlines originality of work and its intrinsic features. For this reason not each person can, choose a framework for a picture and this do mainly professionals. You see it is impossible to enumerate all main specifications as the range of frame working is huge. However basic features of this item are the size, the structure and its relief. Features of an interior also are esteemed, into which the given product will be placed. Well and, certainly, you should never forget about personal perception, love to those or other stuffs and colours, if the creation is intended in a private possession.
From the beginning of 20th century the large new frameworks, which reflected a prevailing style in art were widespread. These were impressionistic, and surrealistic and modern style frameworks. Those methods practicing by old masters (straw wicker-work) was used again. Painted frameworks were also popular, basically applied at creation of fresco.
About such painted frameworks we shall speak. The computer-generated image affords grandiose capabilities in this area. You can select a texture, change color already after creation of ready version, that not possible in real life in any way. The design in the computer-generated image plays an important role. Without it you won’t be able to design works intended for publishing at Web-design.

The process of a framework creation in PhotoShop is an easy and fascinating occupation. The process of a frame is considerably eased due to different additional plug-ins, for example, filter set Photo Tools or Photo Frame.

We want to tell about several simple ways of creation of frameworks in PhotoShop. You can indefinitely long develop methods, offered to you, as the very much space for imagination will remain for you.

Using of grey balance in Photoshop

The grey balance is a parity of quantities of the blue, purple and yellow colors, necessary for reception of neutral grey color. Such color is one of intermediate tones between cleanly white and black and has no undesirable superfluous color shade (that is grey color which is not perceived as pinkish or greenish as warm or cold). Without observance of balance of grey tones, the images printed with use of blue, purple and yellow printed paints, will have any undesirable superfluous color shade. Undesirable color shades can appear also owing to soiling of printed paints, an unequal degree of a dot matrix of points of printed paints of various colors, and also owing to a unsuccessful choice of sequence of drawing of printed paints or a wrong choice of corners of an inclination of a raster for the paints entering into the complete set.

Adjustment of Gray Balance, making in program Photoshop in dialogue window Printing Inks Setup, will help to avoid occurrence of superfluous color shades on the printed images. Adjustment is made with regulation scale of curves for blue, purple, yellow and black channels (CMYK). Each of channels of window Gray Balance (that is C, M, Y and) adopted by default a parameter of scale function 1.00, at a range of its possible changes from 0.50 till 2.00. The increase in some parameter in window Gray Balance leads to reduction in the image of a percentage share of a paint of the given color; reduction of index increases a percentage share of the given paint. For example, input in a line of M of a parameter, greater 1.00, reduces quantity of a purple paint in the image; input of a parameter, smaller 1.00, on the contrary, increases quantity of a purple paint in the image. As well as all adjustments Printing Inks Setup, adjustments of Gray Balance influence as representation of the image on the screen in the mode CMYK, and on results of conversion of the image from mode RGB into CMYK. Changes of adjustments of Gray Balance, executed during the work in the mode CMYK, influence only on new data added to the image, and will not affect on data which have been converted already for transition from the mode RGB into CMYK. To correct in program Photoshop unwanted superfluous color shades of images with using for this purpose adjustments of grey balance: obtain from a service bureau data for adjustment of parameters Gray Balance according to characteristics used there final excretory devices, enter these data into dialogue window Printing Inks Setup, then click Save. OR: Define parameters of adjustment of Gray Balance, using for this purpose a proof: 1. Print a proof of the test image: Ole No Moire (Macintosh), Testpict.jpg (Windows), or receive on the final output device any other trial image. For installation Photoshop for Macintosh file Ole No Moire is placed in folder Separation Sources enclosed in folder Calibration which in turn is in folder Goodies in folder Photoshop. For installation Photoshop for Windows the file Testpict.jpg is placed in subdirectory Photoshop \Calibrat. 2. Load Photoshop, then choose command File> Preferences> Printing Inks Setup. 3. In dialogue window Printing Inks Setup enter the size accepted by default 1.00 into fields Gray Balance for paints With, M, Y and To, then click button OK. 4. Open in mode CMYK the image simulating a trial printed print. 5. Choose command Image> Adjust> Levels. 6. Click Preview, then in emerging menu Channel serially allocate each of channels (that is Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) and correct position of a moved regulator of scale in section Input Levels (an average toddler of grey color), while will not achieve, that the image on the screen corresponded to a proof. 7. Write down sizes of scale for each channel (that is numbers on the average a window of parameters Inputs - Levels); then click Cancel to close a dialogue window without change of the image. 8. Choose command File> Preferences> Printing Inks Setup. 9. Enter sizes of scale for channels into field Gray Balance; then click button OK if it is necessary to apply at once the established values, - or click Save to keep these adjustments in a file, for subsequent use.

NOTE: When you calibrate all your system, instead of simply balance of the separate image, all over again cancel the changes executed in dialogue window Levels; after that change the general grey balance of a program which Photoshop will use constantly for performance of conversion of colors: for it enter parameters of scale into fields Gray Balance of dialogue window Printing Inks Setup.
